Days of prayer, music, service and fellowship will culminate in the canonisation of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, announced by the unforgettable Pope Francis for the official Youth Day. The freshness of youth meets the timeless example of a “normal” saint whose witness still speaks to new generations.

Why the youth Jubilee is special

Within the Holy Year calendar, the youth week is far more than a festive gathering: it is designed to rekindle faith-filled enthusiasm. Multilingual catecheses, workshops on faith and social engagement, night-time adoration under the stars and volunteer projects in Rome’s outskirts invite young women and men to live the Gospel creatively. The motto “Pilgrims of Hope” becomes a life programme: walk, meet, serve.

Pier Giorgio Frassati: a saint for young hearts

  • Born
    Turin, 1901

  • Passions
    mountains, friendship, social action, the Eucharist
  • Lifestyle
    engineering student, Dominican tertiary, contemplative mountaineer

Frassati spent his nights visiting the poor and the sick with medicine, food and a kind word. He died at 24, leaving behind a hidden trail of charity that earned him the title “Man of the Eight Beatitudes.” For Pope Francis, his canonisation shines a light on the Jubilee themes of justice and solidarity.

A message for 2025

  • Toward the heights!
    His mountaintop cry reminds us that faith is an upward surge and an inner conquest.
  • Authentic relationships
    Long before social media, he built networks of solidarity; today he inspires us to use digital tools to build community, not isolation.
  • Concrete charity
    Holiness is not escape from the world but immersion in its wounds: Frassati shows that faith is credible only when it bends over the weakest.

How the Jubilee week will unfold

  • July 28
    Opening of the Holy Door for youth, with a march from the Basilica of St John Lateran to St Peter’s.
  • July 29–31
    Themed catecheses (integral ecology, digital faith, volunteering) led by bishops under 50 and frontline witnesses.
  • August 1
    Night of Light: Rome glows with music, silence and Eucharistic adoration in the Circus Maximus.
  • August 2
    Walking pilgrimage to St Paul Outside the Walls, with confessions along the way.
  • August 3
    Solemn Mass in St Peter’s Square: Papa Leone XIV declares Pier Giorgio Frassati a saint and entrusts young people with the mission of becoming “builders of hope”.

Getting ready for the encounter

  • Pray daily: with the Gospel and the Jubilee Prayer;

  • Serve: sign up for micro- missions of charity organised by parishes and movements;

  • Share: tell your story on social media;

  • Carry a symbol: a small cross or medal of the new saint as a reminder to live and witness the faith.
